County Schools Posts Fact Sheet on Cell Towers

Anne Arundel County Public Schools has published a fact sheet regarding the issue of cell phone towers on school property, after recent discussions involving the placement of a tower at a school in Odenton. 

The sheet contains an outline of the process of determining sites for cell towers, and the history of AACPS' involvement with Milestone, which has sought to construct a tower on Piney Orchard Elementary School property. 

The fact sheet was first made public last Wednesday during the meeting of the county school board. 

The fact sheet also contains links to articles about the health effects of cell towers. 

Milestone Communications has a master lease agreement with AACPS, under which the school system gets an up-front payment and rent money from the tower. It presented plans for a tower at Piney Orchard Elementary SChool earlier this year, but has not yet submitted a formal plan to the county. 

Many parents of students at Piney Orchard Elementary have opposed a cell tower at the school, citing concerns over health and property values.
