Fort Meade Sergeant Vying for Spot on 'The Voice'

An Army sergeant at Fort Meade is among 25 area people vying for a spot on the NBC singing show "The Voice."
Sgt. 1st Class Gustavo Ruiz, who works in the Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center at Fort Meade, is hoping for a chance to sing before producers, with an ultimate goal of appearing on the show before celebrity judges.Â
Ruiz is going up against 24 other contestants in the "Be the Voice" competition held by WRC-TV, NBC4 in Washington, DC. If he is selected in the top four through online voting, he'll participate in a sing-off at the NBC4 studios. If he wins there, he'll have a chance to sing directly to show's national producers and bypass the audition line.

Anyone can for Ruiz up to four times daily on NBC Washington's website. The website features of a video of Ruiz singing "America the Beautiful."
