July 4 Weather: Will It Rain In MD On Independence Day?
A tornado and damaging hail are possible in Maryland as a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect. But will it rain on Independence Day?

MARYLAND — A tornado, large hail and strong storms are possible across much of Maryland, said the National Weather Service, which has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. There's also a chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday's July 4 holiday.
The watch says, "scattered severe storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and large hail are possible through this evening. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. There is also an isolated threat for flash flooding during this time."

Areas in the watch are: the District of Columbia, plus Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, St. Mary, Talbot, and Washington counties.

Monday will be steamy with a heat index hovering around 100.

The heat will linger for Independence Day, bringing another chance for storms Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The forecast could disrupt an already busy travel season. Nearly 1 million Marylanders are expected to hit the road to celebrate July 4.

Monday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms between 2pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds.
