Local Dog Survives Subzero Temps in Maine

Dempsey, a boxer belonging to a family from Severn, ran away when visiting family over the holidays.

A young dog from Severn that ran away during a family trip to Maine has been found, after being struck by a car car and surviving subzero temperatures. 

The Morning Sentinel in Maine reports that Dempsey, a one-year-old boxer, ran away on Dec. 28 and was found on Monday. He will be reunited with his owner, Jamie Cyrway of Severn, this week. Cyrway and her three children were in Maine visiting her mother and returned home on Jan. 1.

The newspaper reported that Dempsey was hit by a car during his ordeal in Maine, and suffered a broken leg, broken tooth and hypothermia.

Jamie Cyrway said on her Facebook page that Dempsey was scheduled to have surgery Thursday. 

"I know that he is in good Hands and I trust that his procedure will go very smooth," Cyrway wrote.
