New Orleans Kitchen Will Not Re-Open

The restaurant closed last December and owners had been looking for new partners.

It's official: the New Orleans Kitchen and French Market is gone.

Owners said the eatery, which enjoyed a short but popular run in its spot on Telegraph Road in Severn, will not re-open. The restaurant had stopped operating last December but owners had indicated they were seeking new financial partners.

The New Orleans Kitchen only opened in May of last year with New Orleans native Rusty Evers manning the kitchen along with several family members. It became well-known in the area for its po' boy sandwiches, gumbo and beans and rice. Last fall, it launched a special Saturday breakfast menu with fried chicken and waffles, beignets and cafe au lait.

Operators formally announced the closure on the restaurant's Facebook page Wednesday. Here's the statement in full:

After much thought and conversation, our family has decided not to reopen our beloved little New Orleans Kitchen. We want to, once again, thank all of you that have continued to support us through Facebook and emails. It has indeed meant alot to us. We will especially miss those of you that came into our place clad in your New Orleans T-shirts, hats, Mardi Gras beads and the gifts that you shared with us (the Sean Peyton face fan, was our favorite!). We will miss our military friends and hope that we gave you a little bit of "home", thank you for your patronage and for being the brave ones that allow people like us the opportunity to have a dream even if it didn't quit work out. It has been our pleasure meeting and serving you. Thank you for the memories and support.

May your Gumbo be Yumbo, your Red Beans be full of Ham & Andouille and any Alligator that you meet is fried up and piled high on a Po'Boy, dressed!
