Shutdown Forces Furlough of Fort Meade Garrison Staff

About half of the staff would be furloughed during the government shutdown, and many programs will cease.

About half of the garrison staff at Fort Meade will be furloughed during the government shutdown, while some others will continue to work and may only be paid retroactively. 

It remains unclear precisely which offices and services would remain open during the shutdown, but Fort Meade officials offered the following outline on Monday afternoon: 

Child and Youth Services - OPEN
Fitness Centers - OPEN
Fire and Police - OPEN
Post Exchange - OPEN
Equal Opportunity Office - OPEN, new complaints only
Victim Advocacy - OPEN
Casualty Assistance - OPEN
Army Substance Abuse - OPEN
Army Emergency Relief Office - OPEN
Exceptional Family Member Program - OPEN
Sexual Assault Response and Prevention - OPEN

Public Affairs - CLOSED
The Safety Office- CLOSED
Directorate of Contracting - CLOSED
Directorate of Logistics - CLOSED
Internal Review and Audit Compliance Office - CLOSED
Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security - CLOSED
Directorate of Public Works - CLOSED

The 116 tenant organizations on Fort Meade, including the like the Defense Information Systems Agency, the National Security Agency, The Defense Media Activity will issue their own furlough notices.

Non-exempted civilian workers are still asked to report to work on Oct. 1 to receive their furlough notices.
