UPDATE: Snowfall in Severn w/State Highway Administration Release

The wintery mix and its projections by meteorologists has caused AA Co Public Schools to close one hour early today.

UPDATE: 4:45 p.m.-

Over 1,400 people are working the streets to keep the roads safe, according to a recent news release by the State Highway Administration. The snow has already ceased to fall in DC and metro regions, but the wet mix could prove tricky as it freezes overnight, according to the release.

"Our biggest concern right now is the evening commute.  With many people leaving work early and schools letting out early, traffic is much heavier than normal and the snow is continuing to fall.  Our trucks will be in the same traffic as everyone else and will continue to treat roads with salt, but drivers should expect significantly increased travel time under these conditions," said State Highway Administrator Neil J. Pedersen in the release.

"Please remember to slow down and use caution, rushing during snow won't get you were you want to go, but instead get you into a crash," he said in the release.

The SHA release also said, "For updates on roads conditions, log onto www.roads.maryland.gov and click on "CHART" to view live traffic cameras, average speed maps and crash and incident listings."

Gentle snowfall and an almost absent wind has allowed a winter mix to calmly fall to Earth throughout the Severn area.

While the mix looks inviting for families and friends to enjoy, Anne Arundel County Public Schools have announced they will be closing one hour early today due to reports of tough driving conditions.

All school-sponsored after school programs are cancelled.

According to the Weather Channel at weather.com, approximately .4 inches has fallen so far.

While heavy precipitation is not expected, it's possible the conditions could worsen as the temperature drops and wet surfaces freeze, making for some tricky driving conditions, according to meteorologists at Weather.com.
