State Approves $500K Grant for Cyber Museum
Funds will go toward the construction of the $57 million museum and conference center near Fort Meade.
The state of Maryland has approved $500,000 in matching funds to support the construction of a new museum and conference center near Fort Meade.
The Department of Public Works last month approved the grant for the National Cryptologic Museum Foundation. The foundation has until June 1, 2015 to show matching funds, but officials said the group has already raised more than $800,000 on its own.
The museum foundation has dubbed the new museum project the "Cyber Center for Excellence." It has a total estimated cost of $57.75 million.
According to the foundation's website, the work to honor the work of those involved in the cryptological community, including the National Security Agency. The current cryptological museum, which first opened to the public 1993, is considered too small.
A specific site for the new museum has not yet been announced.
