Store Selling 'Spice' Back on Fort Meade Off-Limits List, Others Removed

Officials at Fort Meade today announced that several businesses have been removed from the list of establishments service members there cannot patronize.

The Fort Meade Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board announced the recommendations Monday. Members who go to barred businesses may be subject to punishment. Business land on the list through unsafe practices or sale of illicit substances.

One business added back to the list is the Exxon station at 7898 Ridge Road in Hanover, which was found by the board to be selling synthetic marijuana or "spice." It was removed after Fort Meade's drug task force found it was selling the substance again, after being removed from the off-limits list in February.

Little Falls Park in Potomac was removed from the list after the board heard from National Park Service officials, according to the release. It had been off-limits due to concerns about the safety of the rapids there.

Anne Arundel County police told the board about Meade Village and Arwell Court in Severn, which had been off-limits due to crime. Both were removed from the list, according to the release.

“No neighborhood is without crime,” Lt. Colonel Marion Bakalorz said in the release. “The patrol officers believe the major concerns for these two neighborhoods have been alleviated and they felt confident that that they should not be singled out for prohibition.”

Here is the current list of off-limits businesses, according to Fort Meade officials:

  • Around the Clock Locksmith, Pasadena
  • Exxon Gas Station, 1318 Annapolis Road, Odenton
  • Exxon Gas Station, 7898 Ridge Road, Hanover
  • Tobacco Stop, 3351 Corridor Marketplace, Laurel
