Homelessness, unemployment, suicide rates during Valentine's and Moms Day were featured this week.

This week proved the staying power of the Super Bowl. Not in the traditional sense- tales of competitive glory covered in mud, sweat and pain-but in the reality that the most lasting images of the Super Bowl don’t occur within the confines of sport.
Yes, we’re talking about the , and unfortunately for her, Christina Aguilera.
Her epic fail on the biggest stage in American sports went viral in a matter of milliseconds. Hundreds of tweets sprayed across cyberspace as the pop diva “got lost in the moment.” Local radio stations discussed the incident, and many seemed quite upset by the 30-year old’s mistake.

Fortunately for Christina, the public is quick to forgive and little, if no coverage was given to the mishap just 48 hours later.
Here on Patch, the news centered on larger state issues, localized to the smaller area of Severn. and numbers were released and allowed people in the area to see how the town is fairing in comparison to the rest of the state.

Moms Day
Our new weekly feature entitled Moms Day kicked off this week, filling Wednesday’s headlines with content for the local mothers. At Severn Patch, we know a large demographic of our readers are stay at home moms, and in an effort to curtail to their lives, we wanted to devote an entire day to them.
Our Mom Council comprised of local articulate and active mothers, provided a forum for discussing , for the weekend and some .
We’ll have more each week for Moms Day, but feel free to offer ideas and content if there are specific things you want to see.
BRAC and Grieving Families
Towards the end of the week, Severn Patch tackled some hard issues that greatly affect the people of the area.
We reported the comments from strategists stating that . Additional reports indicate that Rt. 175 will be widened soon, but read the report to learn more about exactly what needs to be done in order for BRAC to fully be complete.
While we used plenty of Valentine’s Day content this week, perhaps the most intriguing was our investigation about and the level of grieving during the holiday.
Despite popular belief, we learned suicides actually don’t increase during Valentine’s Day. By speaking with professionals, we discovered those grieving the loss of a loved one experience heightened feelings and in the article, we offered tips shared by said professionals on how to counteract the pain.
