What Road in Odenton Needs a Speed Bump?

Odenton, MD- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Odenton. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Odenton, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

• "Oakton Road, speed limit is 25 they easily do 40, and there are a lot of kids on that road."
• "North Patuxent Road."
• "Patuxent definitely. And the circle in front of Food Lion."
• "Higgins Drive- no sidewalks and lots of kids walking to Arundel Middle. I have to back into my drive way. It's too dangerous to try to back out of it due to speeders."

• "Snow Valley. Cars are parkred on both sides and kids cross for Waugh Chapel Elementary."
• "North Patuxent, south of Ransom. Some folks come up and down this two lane road with no sidewalks at 40-50 mph!"
