Owings Mills, Reisterstown Students Named Carson Scholars
A student from Franklin Middle school has earned the scholarship for the first time for academic achievement and humanitarian work.
One area student earned a first-time Carson Scholarships for his academic and volunteer works.
Carson Scholarships are awarded to "high-achieving students in grades 4-11 who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and humanitarian qualities," according to a news release from Baltimore County Public Schools.
The new scholar—among 14 in BCPS—is:

- William Yurcik — grade 6 — Franklin Middle School
These students are among 425 students from throughout the country to be named 2013 Carson Scholars.

- Eryn Ammons — grade 11 — McDonogh School
- Kelsey Nedd — grade 11 — McDonogh School
- Claire Sinnott — grade 12 — McDonogh School
714 students have renewed their Carson Scholar status as previous winners.
The scholars from the Mid-Atlantic will be honored at an awards banquet April 7 at Martin's West in Woodlawn. The event is open to the public.
Newscaster Sam Donaldson will be master of ceremonies.
Dr. Ben Carson, a renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, will be keynote speaker.
