A Family Affair Children's Center

We have a full preschool program serving children ages two through five years old. We use creative curriculum which is a theme based, teacher created curriculum. We have a music teacher who comes once a week and we take several field trips a year. Our 2’s and 3’s Program In our 2’s and 3’s room we focus on helping children master self-care tasks such as toilet-training and using cups and forks as well as building social skills. We also lay the foundation for future academic learning with the basics such as the alphabet, colors, and basic math skills such as patterns and counting. Our 4’s and 5’s Program Our 4’s and 5’s program focuses on Kindergarten readiness. We cover all developmental areas including literacy, math concepts, science, social skills, music, and art all couched within a fun and interactive theme such as “Animals” or “The Beach.” Learning activities related to each of those topics are done throughout the week. Before and After School Care We provide before and after school care for children who attend Pine Grove or Harford Hills Elementary. We are open when schools are closed. We do a variety of indoor and outdoor activities such as: ○ Table games ○ Crafts ○ Legos ○ Outdoor play We also offer homework help, a morning and afternoon snack. Children are picked up and dropped off from the center by the BCPS bus system. Summer Camp We offer a school age summer camp for Kindergarten—5th graders. It might be January, but the Carney Improvement Association and the Carney Elementary School PTA already have their sights set on warmer months. The school and community groups will host a joint meeting at Carney Elementary School Wednesday night to discuss with Fifth District Councilman David Marks the possiblity of installing air conditioning at the school. "Currently, the newer wings of the school are air conditioned and the Library, but the classrooms for several grades and the cafeteria and gymnasium are not air conditioned," wrote Carney Improvement Association president Meg O'Hare in an email. "It is our time to speak up for the students of Carney Elementary School and work with our Councilman David Marks toward finishing the air conditioning of the school." The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the school's cafeteria and the public is welcome to attend. Do you have a child who attends Carney Elementary School?
