Gas Leak Near Overlea High Closes Road

A Wednesday afternoon gas leak temporarily closed Kenwood Avenue near Overlea High School and caused 10 homes to be evacuated. 

The leak occurred near Kenwood and East Avenues, about 200 yards west of the school according to fire officials.

BGE crews are on the scene, and as of 2:50 p.m. had stopped the leak, officials said.

"Kenwood Avenue is closed but buses can access Overlea High School, please avoid the area," wrote fire spokeswoman Elise Armacost in an email.

Officials advise that since the leak has been stopped the road should be reopened soon.
