PHOTOS: Local Artist Recreates Ravens Moments

A local artist has taken his hobby to a new level, creating the artwork you see in the gallery above—and it's drawn some attention from at least one player on the Baltimore Ravens.

Jamie Clafferty, a Parkville native and die-hard sports fan, creates and sells these original pieces when he's not busy working 60-hour weeks at Beltway Fine Wines.

Despite having no formal training as an artist—Clafferty is an Army vet with a degree in marketing who was actually denied admission to the George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson—he's able to recreate realistic images of Baltimore Ravens moments using charcoal on canvas.

Each piece, he said, takes him between 4 and 10 hours.

Clafferty said he's gotten some attention from Ravens players as a result of his artwork. Injured cornerback Lardarius Webb mentioned Clafferty on Instagram late last week, and since has asked him to do some artwork for his "man cave".

He's also done a commission for Vonta Leach, Clafferty said.

Most recently, on a whim, Clafferty took a picture he did of Ray Rice to the Ravens-Steelers contest last Sunday. After warm-ups as the team was headed back to the locker room, Clafferty hung over the railing with a Sharpie and the picture—Rice, he said, looked up, smiled, grabbed the marker and signed it.

That, Clafferty said, will be the very first piece he's done that won't be for sale.
