When I was in my early twenties, I moved back in with my mom and stepdad after going through a breakup. I immediately started hunting for a job and applied to a restaurant I heard was highly sought after and very hard to get into without knowing someone to open the door for you. Two days later, my mom and I were eating at a different restaurant, and I asked if they were hiring, and well, they hired me on the spot.

After four hours shadowing the woman who was training me, I hid in the bathroom and cried. Something did not feel right to me about being there. I checked my phone and saw I had a missed call from the other restaurant that I had applied for just days earlier and they, too, had offered me a job.
