Greater Baltimore Walk to End Alzheimer's Oct. 29

The Alzheimer's Association will hold its annual Greater Baltimore Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Oregon Ridge Park.

Registration is at 8 a.m., and participants can come in costume during this event.

Walkers can opt for a paved route that measures less than one mile within the park, and a 2-mile, unpaved route around the park.

There will be Halloween candy, light refreshments, music and entertainment at this family event.

An opening ceremony will focus on the misison of the Alzheimer's Association, and the top three fundraising teams will be announced, according to a news release from the Alzheimer's Association.

At 9 a.m., Youth Ambassador Jessica Hill, 16, of Lutherville, will kick off the walk.

Since 2005, Hill has helped care for her grandmother who has vascular dementia, the release states. Hill also works as a dining room server at Brightwood, where she interacts with residents who have various forms and stages of dementia.

This event raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research.

Since it began in 1989, walkers have raised more than $265 million, the release states.
