Faces of Hope Breast Cancer Survivor from Pikesville
American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk of Baltimore, Oct. 21, Camden Yards Sports Complex Highlights Survivors

Venus Turner-Daniels, a 24-year breast cancer survivor, was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer after she felt a lump in her left breast. Not only was she taking care of two sick parents at the time of her diagnosis, but she had just begun dating her boyfriend three months earlier. “He was very supportive. Now, we are married and have a daughter,” says Venus, who adds, “My faith gives me strength to address each challenge with a positive attitude. My family and friends were incredibly supportive in my journey. This helped me so much.”
Venus turned her own experience into a way to help others with breast cancer. She is a long-time Making Strides Against Breast Cancer participant and also served as a volunteer Reach to Recovery coach with the American Cancer Society for 19 years, providing one-on-one mentoring and support to newly-diagnosed breast cancer survivors. She says, “The American Cancer Society is willing to help women on their journey with breast cancer and guide them to supportive resources.”
Her advice is, “Early detection is your best friend. Take care of yourself first. Then you will be able to take care of everyone else.”
