Krieger Schechter Names Middle School Head

Krieger Schechter Day School promotes Assistant Middle School Head Shelley Hendler.

Shelley Hendler will be the new head of Krieger Schechter Day School's Middle School.

Hendler, who is currently the assistant head of the school, will take the helm on July 1, according to a release from Krieger Schechter.

, the current head has resigned to take a job at Solomon Schechter of Long Island where he will be director of the high school, the release states.

Hendler became assistant head of the Middle School in 2000, after she taught for 20 years at Baltimore County Public Schools, it states.

  • Supervising the general studies program
  • Coordinating meetings with students, parents and staff on student life; curriculum and learning issues
  • Developing technology and other special programs

When teachers heard the announcement of Hendler's promotion, and the other appointments, listed below, "Everyone smiled," according to the school website.

Dafna Tasch started singing Siman tov u-mazal tov, and "The singing and the clapping went on and on. It was marvelous. Absolutely, marvelous," outgoing Headmaster Paul D. Schneider said.

Middle School leaders

Robyn Blum, the current Judaic head of the Middle School, will be promoted to assistant Middle School head.

Dafna Tasch will continue in her role as head of Hebrew studies.

"I am confident that this administrative team is strong and well-positioned to lead our Middle School into the future," Schneider said in release.

"Shelley and I have already had a chance to spend considerable time together," said in the release. "We talked, we listened, we envisioned, but most importantly we truly saw eye-to-eye on the direction of the Middle School."

Zarch said Handler will bring stability and leadership to the school.
