UPDATE: Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church Moving to Linthicum

UPDATE (3:19 p.m.)-First Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church, which has been holding services at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, plans a move into its new building.

It's been five years since lightning struck the steeple of its church at Fremont and Saratoga streets, and the now it's moving into its new home in Linthicum.

During a service Sunday at New Psalmist Baptist Church, Bishop Walter S. Thomas, pastor of New Psalmist, praised Mt. Olive for its tenacity during the past, difficult years, and for its success in developing its new location.

He used the church's story as an example of how to "just hold on" for the better that is to come.

Also on Sunday, Thomas tweeted a photo of a First Mt. Olive service.

Lightning struck the First Mt. Olive steeple on July 10, 2007, and the resulting fire destroyed the sanctuary, according to the church's website.

Since then, First Mt. Olive has held services at various places, including at Temple Oheb Shalom, it states.

And most recently its services have been held at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation.

Members of Mt. Olive could not be reached for comment Monday, but the church's voicemail message confirms the new location at 618-766 Old Hammonds Ferry Rd. in Linthicum.

It's called the Rehoboth campus, the message states, noting that "the transition dates are forthcoming."

However, an announcement on the church website states that the inaugural worship services were to be held at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday at the Rehoboth Campus.
