Panther Wins State Wrestling Tournament

Travon Wright, a senior at Pikesville High School, took the division title.

Travon Wright, a senior at Pikesville High School is now the fifth state champion in the school's history.

On March 1 and 2 the wrestler competed in the Division 1A-2A championship. His team took 21st out of 67, according to a news release. But Wright won the 138-pound division.

“Travon is the model and everybody copied him. If he was not on the team, no one would have been as successful as they were this year. He made everyone better,” wrestling coach Andrew Schnydman said in a statement.

Wright won the 138-pound division, finishing with a 42-1 record this season, the release states.

“If you practice hard and do everything you do, and once you get focused, you do well,” Wright said in a statement.

The championship was held at the University of Maryland College Park.
