Renovations Continue At Historic Pikes Theater

It looks as though the historic Pikes Theater is edging ever closer to reopening as a movie house.

A message posted on the marquee tells travelers northbound on Reisterstown Road that Pikes Cinema 1 & 2 will open soon.

Back in May, the Baltimore Jewish Times reported that the new theater, which will have two 25-by-13 foot screens with seating for 80, could have opened by this month.

The paper said then that the theater would be open seven days a week and show first-run films.

A Patch commenter at the time, expressed concerns about parking at the new theater.

"You're kidding - right? Movie theatres rely on prime times to sell out. Two screening rooms with 80 seats each. Let's assume there are 2 people to a car. That's 40 cars per screen and 80 for the theater. When the 7 pm movie is packed on Saturday and the 9 pm movie is sold out, that will require about 160 parking spaces. Please tell me where they exist in Pikesville," wrote commenter Blue Alpha. "Sorry but this is an idea that is doomed from the start."
