You have made it to Friday, Potomac. I hope everyone stayed safe during yesterday’s storm. We have a few notes to begin your day:
1. Flash floods hassled the Potomac area throughout the afternoon yesterday. As rain continued to fall through the evening, prompting the Department of Transportation to close roads all over the county, multiple drivers were trapped in their cars. Several Patchers submitted photos of flooding near their areas. If you have any pictures you’d like to share, please email katie.griffith@patch.com.
2. Today’s forecast calls for continued rain through the evening, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms are possible, with a high near 80 and a low of 65.
3. With all of these water issues we've been having lately, Patch will feature a story concerning the hazards of the Potomac River later today. As much fun as playing and swimming in the water can be, we need to remember that accidents can happen without warning.
4. Do you like writing? Do you have an opinion about local issues or a special skill or hobby you’d like to share? Potomac Patch wants you! The website will be making room for local bloggers on the site and we're looking for anyone who can riff on various topics, share their personality and engage our readers in discussions. If you’re interested in blogging on the site, shoot an e-mail to katie.griffith@patch.com.
5. September 9, 1956 was a pretty spectacular day for music history. On this day, 55 years ago, Elvis Presley appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time, shocking and thrilling audiences everywhere with those gyrating hips and curling lips.
