Troop 773 Collecting Old Flags at Potomac Day

Do you have a flag that isn’t in condition to fly, but don’t know how to dispose of it correctly?

Boy Scout Troop 773 will be collecting used and old flags at Potomac Day on Oct. 22. The Boy Scouts of America are one of the few groups that are certified by the United States Congress to dispose of U.S. flags that are no longer suitable for use. They will honorably dispose of the flags during a retirement ceremony where the flags will be burned while the Troop stands at attention.

If you have a flag that is torn, tattered, dirty or generally no longer appropriate to fly, you can bring it to Potomac Day and drop it off with the Boy Scouts. Look for the Scouts in full uniform at in the parking lot of Potomac Promenade.
