Geneva Day School Announces Art Exhibition

From Geneva Day School: Please join us for Geneva Day School’s 37th Annual Art Exhibition on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at 11931 Seven Locks Road, Potomac, MD 20854. Each year, the School is artistically transformed into an art gallery for one evening, displaying at least two original pieces of art for each of its 260 students, ages two through Kindergarten. Geneva Day School’s art program focuses on the creative process using a variety of art techniques. Thus, the artworks reflect the imagination, individuality and style of each unique young artist.

Guests of all ages will admire artwork on display, as no two pieces of art are alike. Geneva Day School alumni return to enjoy their younger siblings’ or children’s masterpieces. Beautiful classical music will be performed by alumni students.

Throughout the school year, preschool and Kindergarten students explored lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. Two- and three-dimensional paintings and sculptures made from a wide variety of materials will be on display. The Pre-Kindergarten classroom will become a Native American Indian Art Museum, in which much of the art will reflect a healing spirit. Works include spirit beads, dream catchers, t-pees, sand paintings, colorful jewelry, textured clay pottery, masks, rainmakers, drums, and Indian legends. Native American flute music will fill the air.

Art History is an integral part of Geneva Day School’s Kindergarten program. Beginning with cave drawings and ending with contemporary art, these amazing creations will be on display both in the Kindergarten Learning Cottage and throughout the main building as well. The Kindergarten art historians concluded their study of famous art/artists this year with a trip to the National Gallery of Art to see many of the original artworks studied in the Geneva Kindergarten Art History program.

A School-wide effort, the Annual Art Exhibit is truly a labor of love for the entire Geneva Day School staff and a highlight of every school year for families as well. We invite the media to join the Geneva Day School community any time between 5:30–7:30 p.m.
