Victim Identified In Deadly New Hampshire Avenue Crash

Police have released the name of a Silver Spring man who died when the bicycle he was riding Thursday was hit by a 2012 Toyota RAV4.

SILVER SPRING, MD — Police have released the name of a Silver Spring man who died when the bicycle he was riding Thursday was hit by a 2012 Toyota RAV4.

Montgomery County police said Robert Sheldon Boethling, 76, died at an area hospital from injuries he suffered in the collision. The accident happened about 2 p.m. in the 15200 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

Investigators have not identified the driver of the Toyota. Boethling was riding a bicycle on the right shoulder of northbound New Hampshire Avenue; the SUV was also northbound on New Hampshire Avenue.

For reasons that are still under investigation, the Toyota struck the cyclist on the shoulder.

Boethling was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
