Meet Faces of Hope Breast Cancer Survivor from Potomac
American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk of DC on October 14 at the Tidal Basin features Faces of Hope Survivors

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk of Washington, DC, takes place Saturday, October 14, 8am, at The Tidal Basin, followed by a post-walk party. We are proud to recognize Making Strides participant and breast cancer survivor Jayita as one of the event's Faces of Hope ambassadors and thank her for allowing us to share her journey to inspire other survivors or those who have friends or family who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Jayita Chatterjee was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year through her first mammogram at age 40. She had bilateral mastectomy and is undergoing reconstruction and chemotherapy treatment.
As the mother of an 11-year-old daughter, Jayita says, “I want to win this battle so I can be part of her life as she grows up, graduates, and becomes an adult.”

Jayita believes in fighting cancer using “our superpower of faith” and is inspired by “stories of others ahead of me that walked this path. I have learned so much from other breast cancer patients, and I want to give back. I want to fundraise, volunteer, educate, and contribute the best I can. I feel more women need to hear of survivor stories and find hope. I feel more women need to understand the importance of screenings and get educated on the treatment possibilities versus live in fear. That is why I chose to participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
“My lump was quite deep and could not be felt. It is only because I chose to not skip on my mammogram that the lump was detected early. Detecting and treating cancer at early stage is what allows for better chances of success in fighting someone's cancer.”
