Potomac Library Celebrates Reopening After Extensive Renovations

POTOMAC, MD — Montgomery County Public Libraries celebrated the reopening of its Potomac Library on Saturday after the branch had been closed since May 2022 for renovations.

The renovation work at the Potomac Library included the replacement of all flooring, reconfiguration and updating of shelving, a new service desk, new lighting, and redesign of the children’s reading nook.

The 16,000-square-foot library also saw the installation of security equipment, the addition of lounge seating and study areas, replacement of the entry doors, creation of a family restroom, and the updating of interior and exterior signs.

“The Potomac Library is an important epicenter for local residents to learn, meet and have access to critical resources, such as computers, classes, events — as well as free COVID rapid tests and facemasks,” Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said in a statement.

The renovation of the Potomac Library, located at 10101 Glenolden Dr. in Potomac, stayed within its $3.5 million budget, WTOP reported.

"The partnership between the Montgomery County Public Libraries, the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, and the community volunteers has made this a beautiful facility," Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass said. "Make sure to check it (and a book) out!"

As part of the renovation, work was also performed to bring the Potomac Library into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
