Potomac Environmentalist Arrested In Ohio For Chaining Self To Fence

A Potomac environmentalist is facing two misdemeanor charges after protesting Ohio's oil and gas drilling regulations.

Ron Shalom, 22, was charged Monday with criminal trespassing and obstruction of official business at a deep-injection well site near Youngstown, OH, according to an ABC Channel 5 report. Shalom chained himself to a gate near the well, the report said.

The well site is used to store and filter wastewater from a process known as "fracking" used to help release oil and gas reserves.

Shalom joined dozens of other protesters from the environmental advocacy groups Frack Free Mahoning and Ohio Fracktion.
