Armed Robbery in University Park Thursday

A victim was robbed on the 4000 block of Van Buren Street.

A man was victim of an armed robbery Thursday afternoon when he was walking home from Northwestern High School.

University Park Police Chief Michael Wynnyk sent an e-mail regarding the incident to residents Friday morning. Police said the victim was approached in the 4000 block of Van Buren Street by three men who were standing at the corner of 40th Avenue and Van Buren Street. One suspect pulled a folding knife and demanded the victim's money.

The suspects took his money and cell phone, and fled towards Adelphi Road.

The victim knocked on a resident's door for assistance, and University Park Police Department and county police arrived to canvass the area and investigate the scene.

No suspects were apprehended, but the victim's cell phone was traced to an area in Upper Marlboro, police said.

The suspects are described as Hispanic males, about 6 feet tall, between 17 to 19 years of age, wearing dark jackets and blue jeans.
