Trade in "Guns For Gift Cards" in Prince George's County

Safely get rid of unwanted firearms and ammunition in exchange for a gift card Dec. 6.

A gun buyback program gives Prince George’s County residents and beyond to safely dispose of unwanted guns.

Police officers will be collecting the firearms at Saint Mark’s United Methodist Church in Laurel, 601 8th Street, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 6.

Attendees do not have to live in Prince George’s County. The following instructions are given for those who come to the event:

  • Place unloaded gun in the trunk of the vehicle
  • Wait for a uniformed officer to give further directions

The collected firearms and ammunition will be melted down and recycled. Those who turn in a gun will receive a Visa gift card, although the value has not been revealed.

“This type of grassroots effort is very successful because it’s an opportunity to remove unwanted guns safely from their homes,” Mayor of Laurel Craig A. Moe said in a news release.
