Maryland officials said more than 500 jobs will be retained at the site, with new employment opportunities and additional business planned.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Samsung Biologics recently announced that it will open its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Montgomery County.
The South Korea-based biotechnology company plans to open the facility at GSK’s manufacturing site in Rockville, which it acquired for $280 million, according to the Maryland Department of Commerce.
“We are thrilled that Samsung Biologics has selected Maryland for their first U.S. manufacturing facility, a testament to our state’s leadership in life sciences, our highly-skilled workforce and the commitment of our private and public sector to advance patient health around the globe,” Gov. Wes Moore said in a statement.

The announcement follows a series of meetings held earlier this year between Moore, Maryland Commerce Secretary Harry Coker, and Samsung Biologics leadership during the governor’s international trade and investment mission to Japan and South Korea.
According to officials, the goal of the mission was to strengthen global partnerships and advance economic growth and workforce development across Maryland.
