Dogs Left in Cage Alongside Road Up for Adoption

Anne Arundel County Animal Control Officers reportedly have a possible suspect in the case where four dogs were abandoned in a crate.

Anne Arundel County Animal Control is taking names of potential adopters for four dogs who were found left in a crate on the side of the road on the Broadneck peninsula.

Officers responded to Cananaro Drive in Revell Downs on Tuesday after receiving a call about the dogs, according to the Capital Gazette. But upon arrival, the crate with the dogs was nowhere to be found.

The next day, an Animal Control Officer saw a Facebook post with a photo of the dogs in their crate, the news outlet reports. The officer contacted the person, who had taken the dogs in to keep them warm after seeing them on the side of the road.

Two of the dogs are grown and two are puppies, Capital Gazette reports.

A Facebook post from Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Control says the officer recognized the dogs from previous contacts with their owner.

Animal Control has named the four dogs:

  • Morrigan, a four-year-old Pug/Beagle mix
  • Cassandra, a three-year-old Terrier mix
  • Lil Steve, a three-month-old Terrier mix
  • Lil Nate, a three-month-old Pug/Beagle mix

The shelter is taking names -- in person only -- for potential adopters. The two puppies already have potential adopters lined up.

The person responsible for leaving the dogs could face charges for animal abandonment, failure to provide adequate space and failure to provide proper protection from the weather.
