SEVERNA PARK, MD — The Severn School has a new sport: volleyball. The private school will field its first girls' volleyball team this fall, the Severna Park Voice reported Monday.

The Voice said Erin Bernhardt will be the head coach. Bernhardt played at the collegiate level in Division I and also competed internationally before coaching at St. Mary's High School in Annapolis for the past six seasons, the Voice reported.

“We’ve been thinking about volleyball for four or five years as we’ve seen its popularity grow, the development of strong club teams in the area, and students and parents asking about the sport,” Severn Athletic Director Julian Domenech told the Voice.
