Pedestrian Runs Onto Highway, Fatally Hit By Truck In Severna Park: Police
A man who ran into traffic on Ritchie Highway in Severna Park was fatally struck by an Annapolis driver, police say.

SEVERNA PARK, MD — A man who ran into traffic on Ritchie Highway in Severna Park was fatally struck by an Annapolis driver early Friday morning, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The accident happened just after midnight on Ritchie Highway (MD-2) southbound near McKinsey Road in Severna Park.
A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was southbound on MD-2 when the pedestrian ran westbound across the roadway just south of McKinsey Road and was struck in the middle lane of three lanes. The pedestrian, who had run from the gas station on the east corner, had just missed being struck by another car in the northbound lanes, police say.
The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel and the victim's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy. Authorities have not released the name of the pedestrian who was killed, but said he was a 40-year-old man whose last known address was in Georgia.

The driver of the pickup truck — Gonzalo E. Lassally, 42, of the 900 block of Marine Drive in Annapolis — suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene.
The preliminary cause of the crash was failure of the pedestrian to yield right-of-way to vehicular traffic when crossing outside of the crosswalk that was available at McKinsey Road, police said. Neither excessive speed nor alcohol use was a contributing factor. No charges have been filed.
