The Severna Park Church of God suffered heavy damage from a fire related to its heating system, county fire officials say.

SEVERNA PARK, MD — The Severna Park Church of God suffered heavy damage from a fire related to its oil-fueled heating system, Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials say. The fire at the church, 233 Ritchie Highway, was reported just before 8 a.m. on Dec. 12.

Firefighters arrived to see smoke coming from the roof of the building and fire around a door on the side of the church. Firefighters extinguished most of the fire on the building’s first floor and in the crawl space within 10 minutes, authorities said in a news release.

Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit determined that the fire was accidental, related to the oil-fueled heating unit in the crawl space.
