Trial Delayed For Severna Park Man Accused Of Killing MD Student

A judge has delayed the trial of a Severna Park man accused of killing a Bowie State University student, the Capital Gazette reports.

SEVERNA PARK, MD — A Prince George's County judge has delayed the trial of a Severna Park man accused of killing a Bowie State University student in a hate crime in 2017.

On Thursday, the Capital Gazette reported that Sean Christopher Urbanski's Jan. 22 trial has been pushed back to July 22. Prosecutors requested the delay because of a change in administration, Denise Roberts, a spokeswoman for State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy, told the outlet.

Sean Christopher Urbanski, a former University of Maryland student, has been indicted and charged with a hate crime and the first degree murder of Richard Collins III, a 23-year-old Bowie State University student who was fatally stabbed while visiting the College Park campus on May 20, 2017.

Collins was stabbed at about 3 a.m. while waiting for an Uber ride outside the Montgomery Hall dormitory on Regents Drive, The Baltimore Sun reported. Police said that Urbanski and Collins did not know each other.

After the May 20 slaying, police said Urbanski was a member of a racist Facebook group called Alt-Reich Nation. Urbansky's defense attorneys have argued that the Facebook group is not related to the crime and would confuse the jury, the Capital Gazette reported.
