Burglaries Spike In September

Takoma Park has seen 13 burglaries so far this month.

Takoma Park has seen a rise in burglaries this month. There have been 13 burglaries in the city through September. There was a similar spike last year with 17 burglaries in September, according to police statistics.

All members of the Takoma Park Police Department are on high alert for these crimes, Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci said.

"We have increased uniform and plainclothes patrols in the city," Ricucci said. "Our detectives are following up on all leads and are working closely with other jurisdictions. The exchange of information between jurisdictions is proving helpful in our investigations."

The burglaries are occurring during the early part of the day after people leave for work, Ricucci said.
