Driver In Fatal Hit-And-Run Sought By Montgomery County Police

Police said a pedestrian died Monday when he was struck by a Chevy Silverado truck on University Boulevard in Takoma Park.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Montgomery County authorities are searching for a driver they say struck a man with a pickup truck and fled the scene. The man later died at the hospital, police said.

According to authorities, Takoma Park Police officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 1100 block of University Boulevard East shortly before 1:20 p.m. Monday for the report of a man lying on the road with head injuries.

Officers located the man in the eastbound lanes. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy later determined the man died from injuries caused by a vehicle.

According to police, investigators determined he was likely hit by a vehicle heading westbound on University Boulevard, which fled on Lebanon Street into Prince George's County.

Police described the vehicle as a 1999-2006 black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab pickup truck. The vehicle likely suffered minor damage to its left side.

Detectives are still in the process of identifying the victim. Police described him as a Hispanic male who is 30 to 40 years old. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He had a short goatee and was wearing a light blue t-shirt and dark blue sweatpants.
