TAKOMA PARK, MD — A family and their pets were displaced after a large tree fell onto their New York Avenue home Saturday, Pete Piringer, the spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, posted to X, formerly Twitter.

While there were no injuries, the large tree collapsed onto the home, causing property damage.

The tree hit a corner of the house near the chimney while a fire was lit, WJLA said.

The family, including their two dogs and two cats, escaped the home and was left seeking shelter after the tree fell, Piringer said.

They’re being assisted by the Red Cross, reports said.

The county building inspector was notified about the incident to assess the property damage.
