Fun Things To Do This Weekend In Takoma Park: Sept. 22-24

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Get outside while the weather's still warm and enjoy these events across the Takoma Park area. Fun for adults and kids, including a comedy night and a documentary screening.

Here's a look at quite a few options for fun over the weekend:

1. Let’s Play Takoma Week – Hula Hoops and Specials

The goal of Let’s Play Takoma Week is to raise awareness for the importance of play and raise funds for the nonprofit Let’s Play America. Head out to the Takoma Gazebo Friday for hula-hooping for all ages and specials at Roscoe's Pizzeria from 6-8 p.m. at 7035 Carroll Ave.

2. Karen Collins & The Backroads Band at TP VFW

Enjoy honky tonk country music by Karen Collins & The Backroads Band with special guest Rob Petrie. The event will be at Takoma Park VFW from 8-11 p.m. Friday. Cost is $10.

3. AFI Latin American Film Festival

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the 28th annual festival featuring more than 40 films from Latin America. Mingle with guest filmmakers, chow down on Latin food and celebrate with the embassies. Located at AFI Silver Theatre & Cultural Center at 8633 Colesville Rd.

4. CBC WEEKEND: Asia's Birthday

"It's Asia's Birthday and We're Partying with a Purpose" is being held 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at the Silver Spring Civic Center at One Veterans Place. Guests can enjoy the hottest DJs, celebrity guests, special live performances, free food and more. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Lupus Foundation and Dream Chasers Charity.

5. Vipassana Meditation

Enjoy opening chants, Vipassana meditation instruction and dharma talk at Willow Street Yoga Sunday from 7-8:30 p.m. Located at 6930 Carroll Ave., Suite 100.
