Oxon Hill Man Who Shot at TP Police Officer Feared for His Life

Terrell Hinton was charged with attempted first-degree murder.

The Oxon Hill claimed at his trial Monday that he thought the officer was trying to kill him, according to a report in The Gazette.

Police charged Trevlyn Terrell Hinton of the 600 block of Audrey Lane in Oxon Hill with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree assault and use of a handgun in a crime of violence after he shot at Cpl. Douglas Malarkey.

Montgomery County Police responded to a call at 11:35 a.m. to assist Takoma Park Police with a report of a shooting. A Takoma Park police officer was in the area of Sligo Creek and Houston Avenue when he saw a black Chevy Camaro speeding. When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the car did not stop. A car pursuit continued onto East Silver Spring Elementary School until the Camaro hit a pole in the school's parking lot. 

The officer pursued the suspect on foot across Thayer Avenue to Thayer Terrace Apartments. The suspect displayed a gun, and there was an exchange of gunfire.
