Person Fatally Struck In Takoma Park (UPDATES)
A 79-year-old Takoma Park man was fatally struck while walking on New Hampshire Avenue at Larch AvenueWednesday night.

(Updated at 1:45 p.m. Thursday): TAKOMA PARK, MD — A 79-year-old Takoma Park man was fatally struck while walking on New Hampshire Avenue at Larch Avenue Wednesday night, police said.
The accident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. and left James Sexton Byrne, of Lockney Avenue, dead from his injuries, police told Patch.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Starlington Windel Simms, 72, of Lockney Avenue was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue (Maryland Route 650) in a 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT. Simms struck Byrne when he tried to cross the intersection at southbound New Hampshire Avenue and Larch Avenue, police said. Byrne later succumbed from his injuries at a local hospital.

Southbound New Hampshire Avenue between Sligo Creek Parkway and Larch Avenue was shut down from the accident.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
