Police Arrest Suspect in August Burglary

George Nyakeh Moiba, 24, of Hyattsville, was arrested for first degree burglary, destruction of property and theft under $100.

Takoma Park Police arrested a Hyattsville man Thursday in connection with a burglary that happened last August, police said.

George Nyakeh Moiba, 24, of Hyattsville, was charged with first degree burglary, destruction of property and theft under $100.

On Aug. 17, 2011, around 1:41 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 7000 block of New Hampshire Avenue for the report of a burglary. Between Aug. 13 and Aug. 17 someone had burglarized the residence by gaining forced entry through a laundry room window, police said.

Rooms were ransacked and property was taken. The residence was processed for evidence and DNA samples were taken from the residence.

On December 21, 2011, the police were contacted by the crime lab who had received a positive match on the DNA evidence submitted, which belonged to George Nyakeh Moiba. An arrest warrant was obtained for Moiba’s
arrest and on Jan. 5 at around 6 p.m., Prince George’s County Police arrested Moiba in Hyattsville and served the warrant from Takoma Park. This investigation is on-going, police said.
