Police Officer Injured In Hit-And-Run In Takoma Park

A Montgomery County police officer was injured by a hit-and-run driver in Takoma Park Wednesday night. The suspect is at large, police said.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — A Montgomery County police officer was injured by a hit-and-run driver while she conducted a traffic stop in Takoma Park Wednesday night, police said.

The officer is identified as a 28-year-old woman who has about two-and-a-half years of experience with the Montgomery County Police Department. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigation has revealed that another officer was conducting a traffic stop on southbound New Hampshire Avenue, south of Piney Branch Road at about 10:35 p.m.

The female officer stopped to assist the fist officer and parked her police cruiser on the street. As she approached the stopped motorist, a driver traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue struck one of the police cruisers and seriously injured the female officer, police said. The driver fled and the suspect is still at large.
