2 Local Students Earn Optimists' District Oratory Honors

The pair will compete in the regional contest in Ocean City.

Students from Cockeysville and Timonium won the Maryland/South Delaware District, Zone 6 Optimist Oratorical Contest.

Mary Norris of Cockeysville and Connor Maher of Timonium came out on top Tuesday after presenting their original speeches about "Why My Voice Is Important," before a panel of judges.

They earned a plaque and their expenses paid to the district competition in Ocean City.

Norris represents the Optimist Club of Timonium, and Maher represents the Optimist Club of Cockeysville.

They go on to compete in the district contest April 26–28 at the Carousel in Ocean City, where there is a $2,500 scholarship award for the best girl and best boy competitors.
