It seems like every time we turn on the television or read the newspaper, we hear so many stories about crime, hatred, political division and malcontent. I have a story to tell that will hopefully lift your spirits and restore the belief that good still exists in our world and that people can become saviors in the strangest of situations.
My family and I are big Orioles fans. My husband and two sons attend many games each season and there was nothing out of the ordinary when we went to see the O’s play the Washington Nationals on Saturday, June 23. We had great seats in the fourth row along the third base line that night and we were having a great time.

Everything changed in the third inning when a line drive foul ball came our way. As people yelled “watch out” we all ducked in our seats. Unfortunately, that foul ball happened to hit my husband directly in his eye. In a state of shock and paralyzed with fear, all I could see was my husband slumped in his seat with blood pouring from his head.
This is where the good part of our story began.

In the seat directly behind my husband sat a doctor and several nurses who worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In a matter of seconds, that doctor was tending to my husband and managed everything whirling around us. He stabilized my husband, got the ushers to notify the paramedics, and tended to him until we were able to move him from our seats to the waiting ambulance.
With all the fear and activity around me, I didn’t even think to get his name. However, my family and I owe him our sincere gratitude for helping us when we needed help the most. I hope that somehow I will find out who he is and that my family and I can properly thank him. I have thought about him every day and although my husband suffered a devastating injury, I can only think of how much worse it could have been without this doctor’s help. He was our savior that evening!
