PHOTO(S) OF THE DAY: See What a Timonium Woman Did for Kidney Health
How far would you go for charity?
Barbara Case is still on a high after this weekend, when she successfully scratched off two items on her life’s to-do list: raise awareness of kidney disease and .
“When we went up the stairwell to the roof and walked out, I was totally excited,” Case said. “They gave us great instructions and answered all of our questions. We then got to practice on a 8 foot wall.
“Next the staff member walked me around to the part of the roof where I would go off. I do remember thinking wow this is a beautiful sight of the harbor and Baltimore. There were three staff from Over The Edge hooking me up to all the gear-it was all moving quickly so I didn't have time to get nervous since they just kept you moving through.”

As career nurse nurse in the Pediatric Nephrology unit for Johns Hopkins Hospital, Case felt it was her duty to raise money and show support for patients suffering from kidney disease.
“I had already planned out how I would be able to accomplish this mentally,” Case said. “I looked at the Over the Edge staff member and asked him to keep talking to me with the instructions and I would follow them-kind of like a robot. The hardest part was when I had to step up on the lip that overhangs the 32 stories below. He kept saying step back-when I was on the edge I had to lean back into a sitting position "L shaped" with my toes on the ledge. The adrenaline was pumping with my nerves but I was totally into it-thinking, ‘I'm doing it.’”

Case successfully raised $2,000 for taking the plunge.
“When I finally got close to the ground, I could hear my kids, sister and dad cheering for me. It was a total "high" knowing that I had achieved my goal that I set a year ago. ... I would do it again in a heartbeat,” she said.
