York Road Reopens After 50-Foot-Long Hole Covered
York Road has reopened in the area of a water main break after more than 24 hours, officials said.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — York Road reopened on Thursday morning after more than 24-hour closure. A sinkhole had formed after a water main break there caused the road to cave in on Wednesday morning south of Padonia Road.
The intersection was closed for the entire day on Wednesday, June 12, as crews worked to repair the water main. As of 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 13, the Maryland State Highway Administration reported the left lane remained closed on southbound York Road in the area of Padonia Road.
The York Road closure took effect before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, officials reported.

A pipe failed while crews were working on a water main tie-in south of Padonia Road along York Road, according to a report from Baltimore County government. The damage to the road was described as extensive, leaving a crevasse that was 8 feet deep, 30 feet wide and 50 feet long south of the intersection of Padonia and York roads.

York Road was closed in both directions between Padonia Road and Roosevelt Street, the State Highway Administration said. Drivers were detoured onto Interstate 83, according to county officials.

Utility crews with BGE anticipated replacing part of a gas line in the area before the water main and road repairs could begin, WBAL reported.
Repairs may require water to be shut off to certain businesses in the area, according to Baltimore County officials, who said that they did not anticipate water outages.
