The Arc Baltimore Honors State Senator West, Delegate Forbes
Public Service Award Recognizes Commitment to Advancing the Organization's Mission

Maryland State Senator Christopher R. West and Maryland State Delegate Catherine M. Forbes are the recipients of The Arc Baltimore’s Public Service Award for 2024.
Presented during The Arc Baltimore’s Annual Meeting and Awards Reception, the Public Service Award recognizes individuals or groups that advance The Arc’s mission by increasing public awareness and advancing the rights and quality of life for people with developmental disabilities.
“Delegate Cathi Forbes and Senator Chris West collaborated on a bill securing legislative bond funding for vital accessibility enhancements at our Towson main office and significant home renovations for two people we support,” explains Kathleen Durkin, The Arc Baltimore’s Chief Executive Officer.

The funding secured by the two legislators enabled The Arc to install push plates on every bathroom door at its main office, ensuring universal accessibility. Crucial renovations, including an updated kitchen and a bathroom with a walk-in shower, were also made to the home of two people supported by The Arc.
Delegate Forbes, her Chief of Staff, and State Senator Mary L. Washington’s Chief of Staff recently had an opportunity to tour the newly renovated home when they were hosted by the two beneficiaries along with staff from The Arc Baltimore.
